Scripture - Galatians 5:22, 25
…The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.

Thoughts
Over the years, being a member of one of the historic (and living) Peace Churches has become more important to me.  Such a stance seems even more significant during this time of divisiveness and unrest.  One of the strongest voices advocating for peace was that of Mildred Norman.  “Who?” you ask.  You know her better as Peace Pilgrim, a name she adopted in 1953, and under which she lived the rest of her days.  By 1964, Peace Pilgrim had walked 25,000 miles, speaking on the topic of peace to a variety of audiences.  Although she continued walking for seventeen more years, she stopped counting the miles!  Never having written a book of her own, after her death in 1981, friends compiled her thoughts, talks and transcripts into one.  I’d like to share an excerpt from that volume:

“We seem always ready to pay the price for war.  But we expect to get peace for nothing.  We’ll get peace when we are willing to pay the price of peace.  And to a world drunk with power, corrupted by greed, deluded by false prophets, the price of peace may seem high indeed.  For the price of peace is obedience to the higher laws; evil can only be overcome by good and hatred by love.  The price of peace is to abandon hate and allow love to reign supreme in our hearts for all our fellow human being over the world.  The price of peace is to abandon greed and replace it with giving, so that none will be spiritually injured by having more than they need while others in the world still have less than they need.”

Prayer
Loving God, we ask that you touch and under gird our spirits, that we might follow the way of Peace Pilgrim. Now and in the years ahead.  Amen.
