Prayers for:
Millie Rein, who suffered a major stroke on Thursday.  She is a patient at GSH.  Prayers are requested for rest and peace.

Congratulations to Don Martin!
Dr. Donald Martin, a faculty member at Penn State College of Medicine for 35 years and an anesthesiologist from Lebanon County, was named the 2020 recipient of the Pennsylvania Medical Society’s (PAMED) Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Martin is now professor emeritus in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. The Distinguished Service Award is considered PAMED’s highest honor. “Dr. Martin has been a notable author, educator and advocate for physicians and patients over a distinguished career,” said Dr. Lawrence John, PAMED president. “He has represented Pennsylvania medicine well and is extremely deserving of this award.”

Scripture – Psalm 91:4a
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge, his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

Thoughts:
The on-line story is told about a fire that occurred in Yellowstone National Park several years ago.  A ranger walked through a severely burned area to survey the damage caused by the fire.  He found the body of a bird literally petrified sitting upright at the foot of a large tree.  Somewhat astonished by the sight, he knocked the body over with a stick and was stunned to see three baby chicks scurry from under the dead bird’s wings.  Apparently, the mother had moved her chicks to the base of the tree and covered them with her wings to offer protection for them.  Safety might have been achieved by the mother flying away, but she sacrificed her life to save her chicks.

The image of God as protector in the face of life’s difficulties is frequently expressed in the Bible using language of God’s sheltering wings.  The Psalmist wrote:

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say to the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’  Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.  He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge, his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
Psalm 91:1-4.

Prayer:
Protecting God, may we find rest and peace in shadow of your wings.
